Caricature of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman from the iconic and campy 1970s series
Very well done. This sketch has a nice spontaneous quality that would probably be lost if you did a more finished version.
Thank you!! That's a very interesting point. I do often find that when I translate to some type of color media (doing a final from this more sketchy version), a lot of the fun is lost in the piece and it gets very dry. The only thing that can help is really vibrant colors such as when I use pastel. Otherwise it becomes such a lost translation of the original and is often overworked.
Yes, that is often the most difficult part of translating a sketch to a more finished piece, the tendency to overwork it.
One thing I've noticed is that it creates an interesting visual contrast when put a line work piece such as a sketch next to a more tonal polished final in color side by side. They almost make each other pop. Still, I often find myself preferring my original sketches, especially when they get as detailed as this Wonder Woman. It's just easy to enjoy the drawing simply because of the line work itself and not just of who is depicted.
She's so skeletal. Nicely done.
